[Test]Spaces

Rediscovering the museum

What is a museum, actually? Who decides what goes on display? What do the exhibits tell us? And how does a museum relate to me? The newly-designed [Test]Spaces at the Märkisches Museum set out to examine these questions.

We've chosen two themes for this purpose: Berlin in the Middle Ages, and daily life and childhood in Berlin around 1900. You can explore the founding of Berlin with the help of a city model, sit on a school bench like your great-great grandparents, try out writing implements from different eras or hear the stories of people who lived in typical Berlin tenements – at the [Test]Spaces, the reflects the programme!

Those who want to can create their own exhibition in miniature form – which will then go on display in the Museum. Personal items from Berlin are welcome, too! For a limited time, these individual stories will be included in the [Test]Spaces and thus form part of the exhibition at the Märkisches Museum. This will allow visitors of all ages to discover the themes and tasks of a museum in a highly individual way.

The [Test]Spaces are geared to all museum visitors – from families, groups and school classes to individuals. There is plenty of space to create and experiment, as well as room to relax and soak up the atmosphere.
